See why reactive dog owners love Barkaholics..

QUESTION FOR YOU...
What is worst part about having a reactive dog?Â
- The embarrassment and sideways glances people give you when you can't "control" your dog? Â
- Dread you feel when you come across a dog on your walk
- Turing the opposite way when you see a dog, over and over
- Stress of holding your dog backÂ
- Trying new things only to get results that don't move the needle enough
- It feels like too much work

Let me know if this sounds familiar...
Â
- Treats don't distract your dog or he won't take them at all
- Your dog ignores you when you say “no bark” “sit” or “no!”
- You've tried all the Tik Tok and Instagram hacks Â
- Your hope is disappearing with each out of control walkÂ
IF THAT SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT, THEN KEEP ON READING
You know things need to change...

you're not going to live like this

you’re not going to spend rest of your dogs life like thisÂ

you know your dog can change with the right plan
CAN IÂ BE HONEST WITH YOU?Â
Obedience training doesn't work for reactivity
It sounds counter-intuitive right? Shouldn't your dog obey and listen? If so, then why won't obedience training work?
Because reactivity isn't about obedience, it's about fear. Most reactivity is fear based, and the rest is over excitement.Â
Man's best friend, our beloved dogs, didn't become our best friend because they were obedient it's because they are always happy to see us. That tail wag when we come home, the excitement when we grab the leash, the snuggle next to us on the couch and the way their head leans into our leg when they want attention.Â
It's the emotions that make us love our dog. And those emotions go both ways. They love us and they have some fears, which is why they shake and get nervous at the vet's office.Â
Reactivity might not look like the nervous dog at the vet's office, but that's because reactivity is defensive fear. A dog is self defense mode isn't cowering, he's fighting, for his life in his mind.Â
You need a process to change the emotions that are causing the reactivity. Emotions will always over rule obedience, it's a survival mechanism.
Â
IF BUT I'M USING COUNTER CONDITIONING AND
Positive reinforcement isn't working, my dog...

won't take a treat about the trigger

starts barking & lunging before disengaging

will be rewarded for that state of mind
THE COLD HARD TRUTH IS..
Positive reinforcement only works if you do it correctly
Many struggling reactive dog owners use treats wrong. If you don't use positive reinforcement correctly, then you're not going to get the results you want.Â
And using treats is not the same as using positive reinforcement.
You're not distracting the dog with a treat, bribing him or counter conditioning the fear just because you put a treat on his nose. Â
It doesn't work that way and most well meaning positive reinforcement trainers get this part wrong.
There is a specific process on how to use the food correctly (notice I didn't call it a treat) to change the emotional response that causes the barking & lunging.
This also can explain why so many reactive dog owners think their dog isn't food motivated, because they're doing it wrong. (btw, if your dog eats dinner, he's food motivated).
Positive reinforcement is the right choice and it absolutely works (I see it work every day) but there is a process that must be followed. Â
PS. Rewarding a state of mind and waiting for a dog to disengage are part of Obedience training ( or Operant Condition) not Classical Conditioning which changes emotions.
Pps. I'm not a fan of using big words that only confuse you because the big words don't matter, but the process to get the result does matter.
Â
Imagine how it will feel when...

You're proud of your dog when he doesn't bark or lungeÂ

You're empowered and know how your dog feels to prevent problems

You can go on hikes, to cafe's and enjoy life with your dog

"Thank you for your great instructions. I've worked through the first 2 weeks of the Barkaholics Class. Sven is doing much better around dogs and human triggers. We had a big success today with two human guests and he didn't bark, growl or lunge at them. My familiy said, "Mom, it is working!" I've trained dogs before but Sven is different. Thank you for your great instruction."

"We got Bosley right before the covid lockdown. He came from Armenia. We were going to do private lessons but did Barkaholics because of the lockdown. We watched the videos and followed the instructions and it worked! We're so excited that Bosley is calm around dogs now. I love taking him to horse shows around other dogs. I'm glad this program was available and affordable."

Hi, I'm Sherry, the founder of the Barkaholics Program
Like you, I struggled with my reactive dogs. I was frustrated by the lack of quality and practical training advice.
I tried countless methods and watched hours of videos, only to find vague advice like "be the leader" or "be calm assertive," with no real solutions. After much trial and error, I discovered effective steps that worked without compromising my values.
With 13 years of experience as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, I've helped hundreds of dog owners turn their reactive dogs into calm companions. My program, Barkaholics, is designed so you don’t have to waste time or money on ineffective methods.
You don’t need extreme measures, expensive training, or harsh tools like shock collars. With Barkaholics, you’ll find a compassionate and effective approach to dog training that works.
STILL HERE?
Good, because there's something I need to tell you.
Â
I know it's tempting to think that someone else can train your reactive dog and bring him back perfect. Just hand over thousands of dollars and trust a stranger because he said so. Sending your dog away to an "intense" training program isn't going to work. I know because worked at a board & train facility for years. I trained hundreds of dogs and gained a lot of experience. The results were disappointing to say the least.Â
One reason why boot-camp programs don't work is that your dog is reactive in YOUR neighborhood with YOU. The problem is tied to you and your neighborhood, because that's where your dog sees dogs. That means the solution must involve you and be in your neighborhood.
In addition, your dog needs to know that he can trust you not to put him in a situation where is feels threatened and uncomfortable. That won't happen if someone else is doing the training in a different location.
Trust is tied to you, this means that YOU are the best person to train your dog.
